To be a vibrant, dynamic and sustainable centre ensuring national seed security through production of high quality seeds and planting materials
To produce and promote high quality seeds, planting materials and other agricultural inputs in adequate quantities and at affordable price to improve the livelihood of the farmers
The Centre is mandated to function as the “National Seed Grid” to meet the in-country farmers’ demand for quality certified seeds and plants of recommended and released varieties, and other agricultural inputs including fertilizers and herbicidesin adequate quantities at a price affordable to the Bhutanese farmers.
The specific objectives of the NSC are:
- To supply certified seeds and plants of agricultural and horticultural crops in adequate quantity and time,
- To specialize in maintaining and multiplying basic and foundation seeds, and planting materials of recommended and released varieties to meet its own needs and of private entrepreneurs.
- To specialize in maintaining Elite Progeny Orchards and Nursery Scheme (EPO-NS) of recommended and released varieties of fruit and nut crops to meet its own needs and of private entrepreneurs.
- To co-ordinate Registered Seed Growers (RSGs), Private Nursery Growers (PNGs), Agriculture Sales and Service Representatives (ASSRs) and Private Sector Entrepreneurs to ensure the availability of certified seeds, planting materials and fertilizers to the Bhutanese farmers at all times and circumstances.
