REGIONAL FARM, SAMTENLING (BHUR)

Brief Profile                                                              

The Regional Seed Centre, Samtenling (Bhur) was initially opened as the Regional Agricultural Research Station in 1969. Over the last four decades the centre went through different functional set-ups. The production of planting materials started as National Seeds & Plants Program (NASEPP), then Druk Seed Corporation and currently as National Seed Centre. The regional centre has 77.57 acres of land managed by three technical & three support staff with 42 Farm labourers.

MANDATE

  • Focal farm for production of sub-tropical fruit crops planting materials, low altitude rice and cardamom. 
  • Responsible for maintenance of mother plants (rootstocks and scion woods) of focal fruit crops and planting materials. 
  • Production and maintenance of basic and foundation seeds of focal crops. 
  • Processing, packaging and supply of low altitude rice and other cereals. 
  • Responsible for production of certified seeds of focal crops in collaboration with the Registered Seed Growers of southern region (Sarpang, Samtse, Samdrupjongkhar Dzongkhags).
